This Week: Powell's and Lavender

Join us Tuesday February 7th 2006 @ Powell's City of Books in Portland for a lecture and slideshow in the gallery.
Then..... this insightfull review by Stephen Lenius in Lavender Magazine:
Archibald’s portraits of the inventors are unblinking, often brutally realistic, and very revealing. He almost appears to be channeling Diane Arbus, only in a friendlier way.
In much of the text, Archibald lets the people in the book tell their stories in their own words. As with the photographs, the reader is struck by the combination of the relentlessly ordinary and the outlandish—foolish dreams, innocent naïveté, triumph, disappointment, and disillusionment, all leavened with a healthy dose of folk social commentary and sexual wisdom.
